Climate & Natural Resources

Coffee, grain sorghum, and caster bean are believed to have originated from Ethiopia (Central Intelligence Agency, 2020a). Ethiopia has some natural resources such as gold, platinum, and copper to name a few (Central Intelligence Agency, 2020). The country has a tropical monsoon climate, with high plateau terrain and central mountain ranges separated by the Great Rift Valley (Central Intelligence Agency, 2020a). Most of the land in Ethiopia is considered agricultural, followed by forest, and then the rest of the land is classified as other (Central Intelligence Agency, 2020a). At the Great Rift Valley there is potential for earthquakes, volcano eruptions, and droughts (Central Intelligence Agency, 2020a). “Deforestation, overgrazing, soil erosion, water shortages, and pollution from industrialized areas are some environmental issues Ethiopia faces,” (Central Intelligence Agency, 2020a).
